If you are looking for a substitute for notepad, you may download:

• Syn

  • Download page

Notepad2 allows only one file open at a time (just like Notepad) but does allow you to turn on line numbering in the View menu.

Syn is more powerful, and also a bigger download, (about two megabytes) and allows multiple open files.
